New Release Round-Up 11-15-24
George Harrison - Living in the Material World (50th Anniversary) - Dark Horse Records
Living in the Material World, George Harrison’s highly praised 2nd solo album of original music following The Beatles’ 1970 dissolution, recently marked its 50th anniversary. With lyrics underscoring his enduring exploration of spiritual themes, the album resonated deeply with audiences. Just 5 weeks after its May 1973 release, both the LP and its single ‘Give Me Love (Give Me Peace On Earth)’ held the top spots simultaneously on the US album and single charts. Upon release, Rolling Stone described it as a "pop classic", a work that "stands alone as an article of faith, miraculous in its radiance." Lovingly overseen by Dhani and Olivia Harrison, Living in the Material World has now been completely remixed from the original tapes for a stunning suite of 50th anniversary releases. Remixed by 3x GRAMMY® Award-winning engineer Paul Hicks, the new mix elevates the album with a sonic upgrade, delivering a sound that’s brighter, richer, and more dynamic than ever before.
Linkin Park - From Zero - Warner Records
Before Linkin Park, our first band name was Xero. This album title refers to both this humble beginning and the journey we’re currently undertaking. Sonically and emotionally, it is about past, present, and future—embracing our signature sound, but new and full of life. It was made with a deep appreciation for our new and longtime bandmates, our friends, our family, and our fans. We are proud of what Linkin Park has become over the years, and excited about the journey ahead.
Cyn - Valley Girl - Unsub Records
‘Valley Girl’ is the debut album from Cyn, the singer songwriter discovered and signed by superstar Katy Perry to her Unsub Records label. Valley Girl features the U.S top 40 radio hit, ‘Drinks’, as well as 11 new tracks of witty, clever and emotional pop perfection.
Michael Kiwanuka - Small Changes - Geffen
“Small Changes” is the eagerly anticipated follow-up to Michael’s eponymous third LP, the Mercury Prize winning and Grammy Award nominated “KIWANUKA”. “Small Changes” was produced alongside Danger Mouse and Inflo, the team behind the globally acclaimed “KIWANUKA” and its equally acclaimed predecessor, “Love & Hate,” and reaffirms his status as one of the defining singer-songwriters of his generation.
Stevie Wonder - The Definitive Collection - Motown Records
Stevie Wonder’s The Definitive Collection is now available on vinyl for the first time. This best-selling, 21-track hits compilation features classic after classic. From early gems, including “Fingertips, Pt. 2,” to “Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours),” as well as the timeless No. 1 songs, “Superstition,” “You Are the Sunshine of My Life,” “I Wish,” “Overjoyed,” and many more. 2 LP set on standard black vinyl, featuring rare photos, Braille embossing, full track credits and a celebratory essay.
Jon Batiste - Beethoven Blues - Verve
Vinyl LP pressing. 2024 release. 5x Grammy and Oscar-winner Jon Batiste returns with a pure piano album, Beethoven Blues (Batiste Piano Series, Vol. 1). Reimagining the transcendent works of Ludwig van Beethoven, alongside original compositions inspired by Batiste's youth competing in local piano competitions and gigging in the heart of New Orleans, the album extends timeless classics across the genre spectrum. It is a way of paying homage to Beethoven's artistry and bringing it into a singular moment, in true creative partnership with Batiste's artistic work and journey.
Dwight Yoakam - Brighter Days - Via Records
"Brighter days are up ahead," declares Dwight Yoakam on the title track of his new album Brighter Days (Via Records/Thirty Tigers), his first release of new original material in nine years. Written and recorded over the last three years, Brighter Days features 12 brand-new songs written/co-written by Yoakam, as well as two seemingly disparate covers of “Keep On The Sunny Side” by the Carter Family and “Bound Away” by Cake, artfully woven into the same body of work in the unmistakable style that could only be Dwight Yoakam. The infectious lead single “I Don’t Know How To Say Goodbye (Bang Bang Boom Boom),” was written by Yoakam specifically for a collaboration with self-proclaimed Dwight Yoakam superfan, Post Malone. At once timeless and timely, in fact downright cowpunk-tual, Yoakam self-produced Brighter Days, blending a modern reverence for the history of country music with the pioneering rock and roll spirit of California. The result creates a sense of craftsmanship and immediacy that captures the quintessential Dwight Yoakam “cool” that has separated the two-time Grammy winner from his country contemporaries since the start of his legendary career. As usual, Yoakam’s lyrics throughout the album are both deceivingly effortless and poignant. Brighter Days was mixed by world-class engineer Chris Lord-Alge and is slated for release Nov 15, 2024.
